 World Book Day – 20th April, 2018

Shakespeare’s Birthday or World Book Day on 23rd April, is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and “most importantly” it's a celebration of reading. In fact, it's the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

As assembly time is the key moment to bring students together;on 20th April, 2018 we used this part of the day to maximise our Booky messaging to students and got them thinking about the role of books and reading play across all areas of their lives. The most scintillating session was the Quiz based on World Book Day& Shakespeare; even the lower Primary participated heartily by guessing the names of the Play and the Books respectively for the questions.

Students of Secondary classes brought their Favourite Book Characters to Life– by dressing up for the day as a World Book Day activity, though dressing up seem to be too young, but many teenagers at the school enjoyed dressing up as favourite book characters and enacted a particular scene or delivered the popular dialogues of their favourite characters in Shakespearian or Elizabethan English. Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Tableau had a special say too.The students also  put a creative spin on it by making a simple prop with items they already had at home, rather than a full costume, such as hats, masks or accessories.
