World Poetry Day and Different Stages of English Literature
BVM Global Senior Secondary School @ Trichy Organised a Prodigious
Poetry Recitation Show in the Campus on the Occasion of World Poetry
Day on 3 rd March, 2022.
The World Poetry Day is celebrated across the globe on 21 st March.
Considering students Final Examination, the Event was organised in
advance on 3 rd March,2022. The Event was chaired by a Class 7 student
Anjana Manickavasagam, who addressed the gathering by motivating
the students on Importance of Poetry and Creative Writing. Her own
Poem on Success was the first in row for Presentation. The special guest
Master Keshav Singh of Class 2 inaugurated the gathering by watering
the Plant as a symbol of care and nurture towards Creation and Nature.
Altogether, One Hundred and Fifteen students participated in this display.
The students used rhythms, actions and imagery to elicit their emotions
and the imaginations through the Poems and Poesy. The students from the
audience end left no stone unturned by cheering and clapping their
friends and classmates on the stage.
The all time theme of the World Poetry Day is to promote Cultural and
Linguistic Expressions. The Students came forward with the Poetries and
Poems in different Languages. Prioritising the second languages learnt at
the School - French, Sanskrit, Hindi, Tamil and English, followed by
their Mother Tongues - Kannada, Urdu and Marathi.
The Students, right from the Primary to Secondary had proved that no
other form of Literature expresses a child’s thoughts and imaginations as
beautiful as Poetry.
While composing their own poems, children learnt how to express their
emotions and feelings through rhyming words and rich vocabulary. It also
paved the way for the students to explore into the world of Music and
Rhythms.
The show had also showcased an exemplary memorising skills of the
students when they came forward to quote their piece of Literature from
memory.
The Day also reflected on the Different Ages of English Literature: Old &
Middle English:450–1066. & 1066-1500, Renaissance: 1500-1600,
Neoclassical Period:1600-1785, Romantic Period:1785-1832.
Victorian Age: 1832-1901, Modern Age: Early 20th century,
Contemporary Age: Mid-20th century.
All the Contestants and Participants were encouraged with a Certificate
of Appreciation and a word of applause by the Principal.
